Gigs: May to June – How busy?!

So May and June were manic for me gig-wise!!

May the 1st and I was at my regular hotel just off Eastbourne seafront, always such lovely audiences there who even enjoy the quiz I provide them with in the break! They mainly always stay til the end of the night – and that sea air makes them tired too haha!! There wasn’t a spare seat on the 1st and there was lots of dancing!!

The Hollington Oak, St Leonards on May the 4th (be with you haha!) was a great one as usual and the regulars always seem to stay! Some dancing and laughter and an encore and I was gone!

The Boot in Seaford on Sunday lunchtime was excellent as it was outside and in the sunshine! See my Facebook site for a few pics of me and the pole 😉 Always a great gig in Seaford!

The Eastbourne WMC on the 7th was also good as it was Bank Holiday Monday and so the atmosphere was good and I was joined on stage by Kelvin Message (a very talented well-known pro musician!) which was very cool!!

9th May at the New Wilmington Hotel was my fifth in eight days!! It was another lovely gig and as I remember, a younger (than usual!) lady asked for It’s Raining Men and Snow Patrol (songs I’d never played at the hotel before naturally!) I was happy to sing them for her and she was so grateful and the audience really enjoyed the night and said how hard I worked (not wrong hehe!) The guests at the hotel love the old songs and my new ones are going down well! I really enjoy singing them, especially Stupid Cupid by Connie Francis and Frankie Valli’s Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You! I have just a few more to learn now from the 15 I bought before Xmas (yes it takes me this long to learn them haha!) I am currently learning One Love by Bob Marley, Dream a Little Dream by The Mamas and the Papas and Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison.

On May 12th I was at The Royal British Legion in Lancing, a first visit for me and so I didn’t know quite what to expect. The people were really friendly and it was a huge room too! A lot of the crowd really rocked and loved to dance and asked for Bon Jovi’s Living on a Prayer, Guns and Roses’ Sweet Child of Mine and Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus!! I was shocked but pleased as I like to rock-out too!! It was a great gig and I’m looking forward to going back there in October 🙂

May 19th and I was back at Southborough at the Club. There was the usual lovely crowd who came out to see me which and I was really grateful for them as it was really quiet – Royal Wedding caused that maybe? I did a video of Need You Now which is on my Facebook page 🙂

A good gig was had again at The New Wilmington on 22nd – some 86yr olds really can move like Elvis you know?!!

June 1st and I was at another new Royal British Legion, this time in Seaford! We had a very interesting journey there driving through Alfriston, we came across a herd of cows right in the middle of the road, without anyone leading them! They were literally running in front of the van going down the road!! I was so scared that a car was going to drive round the corner and run them all over but we didn’t see any dead on the way home so I guess someone found them and took them back home!!

The gig at Seaford was excellent! Such a massive room and they really enjoyed what I did so I’m back at the beginning of December! I allways seem to love the Seaford folk!

On Sunday June 3rd I did a half hour spot at Music in the Park at Willingdon in the afternoon – a quick in and out as it were!! It was a stonking hot day but I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the lovely big stage! Will be back again next year hopefully (see Facebook page for pics!)

The hotel on the 5th was a good one and a bit different as they didn’t ask for The Everley Brothers or Roy Orbison but Mercy by Duffy and Lionel Ritchie – cool crowd!!

On the 9th I was at Polegate RBL again and the night flew by – that’s all I remember about that one!!

Another hotel gig and then Portslade Royal British Legion was on June 16th and we set up to The Birdie Song which was a first!! It got busier and busier as the night went on. The people were lovely as always and they loved Tragedy, Blame it on the Boogie and Songbird actually made this poor man cry which I felt a bit bad about 🙁 That’s the power of music though… I finished with Hi Ho Silver Lining and I bet their arms ached the next day!

Another hotel gig and then on June 23rd I was at Hassocks Royal British Legion (yes another one I know!!) I’d been there before and I knew what they liked so I decided to do something different and sing the first set of 40’s, 50’s and 60’s songs, the second set with 70’s songs and the third set with 80’s to current songs – what a hit that idea was! They booked me for next year and we discussed NEXT New Years Eve too!!

NEWSFLASH!! – New 2019 diary purchased!!

My final gig for June was yet another new one for me, this time it was the Ex Service Men’s Club in East Grinstead. I was unsure what to expect but as soon as I got there I relaxed as I knew they would be a great lot! There was a nice stage and dance area and they really enjoyed the gig! Will defo be going back there next year 🙂

So, all in all a VERY busy couple of months for me! And now we’re into the summer and I have some outside gigs (hurray!) and it’s a little less busy too (which will be appreciated as my kids will be off school!!)

Have brilliant summer fun and holidays all you music lovers and hope to see you tanned and looking relaxed with a beer in hand v.soon!! xxxxxxx
